“When I’m Gone:

Expect Hatred”

John 15:18-16:4a

  Introduction: no one is neutral

  

  

                   People will hate the apostles because they hated Jesus (vv18-21)

                   People hated Jesus because he exposed their hatred of God

                   Though opposed, the apostles testified to Jesus words and works

  

                  Holy-Spirit-enabled (v26)

  APPLICATION

  

  the only true Christianity is apostolic Christianity

  

  we shouldn’t be surprised if the world hates the Bible (forewarned is forearmed)

  

  we shouldn’t be surprised if the world hates the church (don’t expect to be more popular than Jesus, v20!)

  

  

  

  

  COFFEE QUESTIONS 

  Where do we see our culture’s hostility to apostolic Christianity (perhaps even at the same time as it claims to admire Jesus)?

  How do we ourselves react to Jesus shining his light into our lives and exposing us?

  Are we willing to side with Jesus and be hated?
