“A matter of life and death:
the Tomb-Emptier”

John 11:1-44

I am the resurrection and the life … do you believe this? (vv25-26)

No?

Yes, Martha-style?

1) “Yes Lord” (v27)

2) "Lord, by this time there will be an odour, for he has been dead four days.” (v39)

Jesus’ question matters

“Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life” (12:25)

Jesus really wants those he loves to be able to answer a confident “Yes”

“Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So…” (vv5-6)

“For your sake I am glad that I was not there” (v15)

We have even more evidence than Mary and Martha

RASING OF LAZARUS

RAISING OF JESUS

“Where have you laid him” (v34)

“Tell me where you have laid him” (20:15)

“The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth.” (v44)

“He saw the linen cloths lying there, and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself.” (20:6-7)
